प्रत्येक किल्ल्यावरील ट्रेकच्या आधी या ओळी येणार आणि येणारच, याला माझा नाईलाज आहे ..

छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज आणि त्यानंतर स्वतःच्या संसाराची आणि प्राणांचीही फिकीर न करता आमच्या स्वातंत्र्यासाठी ज्यांनी रक्त सांडलं त्या सर्वांना साष्टांग नमस्कार करून या किल्ल्यावर आम्ही केलेली मौज लिहितो आहे. भारताचा इतिहास हा रक्तरंजित आहे आणि मला स्वतंत्र आणि 'हिंदू' राहण्यासाठी, या भूमीवर निस्वार्थ प्रेम केलेल्या सर्व स्वतंत्र्यविरांना माझे शतश:त प्रणाम.

आता आमच्या विसापूर ट्रेक बद्दल थोडाफार -
विसापूरच्या किल्ला हा माळवली स्टेशन पासून १० km अंतरावर आहे. १०८४ मी उंच असलेला हा मोठा किल्ला. किल्याला चढायची वाट थोडी जंगलातून चालू होते. पण नंतर मोठा खडकाळ आणि अरुंद रस्ता आपल्याला गडाच्या तटबंदीपर्यंत घेऊन जातो. चढताना नवीन ट्रेकर्सच्या स्टॅमिन्याचा चांगलाच कस लागतो.

सह्याद्री स्वतः कणखर आहे, इथल्या कणखर मराठ्या सारखाच. ज्याला सह्याद्री काय चीज आहे ते माहित नाही त्यांनी त्याच्या वाटेल जाऊ नये, अस शिवाजींनी मोगलांना वारंवार शिकवून दिलं. त्या वेळेस मावळे युद्धसामुग्री घेऊन गडावर युद्ध करायला जात आणि एवढा गड चढून गेल्यावर लढाई करत. आज आम्हाला फक्त पिण्याचे पाणी घेऊनच चढून जायचे आहे .. गडाच्या वाटेवर सुंदर फुलांनी मस्त गालिचा पसरला होता. ते पाहून आमचा थकवा क्षणार्धात दूर झाला. जसं जसं वर जाऊ तसा शिळ घालणारा वारा आमचा घाम सुकवत होता.

हा किल्ला १७१३-२० दरम्यान बालाजी विश्वनाथ (मराठ्यांचे पहिले पेशवे ) यांनी बांधला. या पूर्वीपासून लोहगड नावाचं शेजारी किल्ला ताठ मानेने विसापूरकडे बघतो. लोहगड हा पूर्वीच बांधलेला किल्ला आहे. लोहगडने शिवराज्याचा आस्वाद चाखला आहे. पण विसापूर त्या मानाने नवा. सुरतेवरून आणलेली सगळी संपत्ती लोहगडावर उतरवली गेली होती.

पुढे १८१८ मध्ये इंग्रजांनी मोठ्या सेनेसह लोहगड आणि विसापूरवर हल्ला चढवला. ३८० यूरोपी आणि ८०० मराठी सैन्याला हाताशी धरून इंग्रजांनी मोठ्या दारुगोळ्यासह गडावर हल्ला चढवला. विसापूर किल्ला सर केल्यावर इंग्रजांनी या गडावरून लोहगडावर तोफांचा हल्ला चढवला आणि लोहगड देखील जिंकला. या तोफ हल्यात दोन्ही किल्ल्यांवरील इमारतींचं पूर्ण नुकसान झाला आहे. फार काही गोष्टी गडावर राहिलेल्या नाहीत. येथून जवळ असलेल्या भाज्याच्या लेण्यांची देखील या माऱ्यात दुर्दशा झाली. आम्ही या ट्रेक मध्ये भाज्याच्या लेण्या पहिल्या नाहीत.

गडावर खूप मोठे पठार आहे. कदाचित माथेरानच्या टेबले लँड पेक्षाही मोठं. इथे अगदी कास पठारा प्रमाणे फुलांचे गालिचे अंथरले होते. कास इतकी विविधता नसली तरी ५-१० प्रकारची पण खूप फुलं वरती पाहायला मिळाली. आमचा ग्रुप खूप तरुण असल्याने आम्ही तिकडे भरपूर फिरलो आणि तेथील दृश्ये आणि फुले आमच्या मोबाईल मध्ये उतरवली. गडावर अगदी थोड्याच ठिकाणी उध्वस्थ झालेलं बांधकाम बघायला मिळते. तरीदेखील किल्याच्या एका अंगाची तटबंदी अजूनही मजबूत आहे. त्याबाजूने खोल दारी आणि समोर ऐटीत उभा असलेला लोहगड किल्ला डोळ्यात भरून जातो.

Visapur Fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin fort Lohgad. Within the fort are caves, cisterns of water, a decorated arch and old houses. These two roofless buildings surrounded by outer or veranda walls said to have once been Government offices. The ruins of a large stone-built house are known as the Peshwa's palace. In addition to a huge carving of Hanuman, there are also several temple dedicated to him scattered all over the place.

There is a well which local legend says was built by the Pandavas. In 1885, near the north wall there was an iron gun ten feet long and of four-inch bore, marked with the Tudor Rose and Crown, flanked by the letters E. R. This is probably a gun of Queen Elizabeth's reign probably taken as bounty from an English ship and presented to the Peshwa by Kanhoji Angre or some other commander of the Maratha navy. Like other guns on the fort it has been disabled by breaking off its trunnions. Close to it are the remains of an old Mahadev shrine.

Unlike the inner structure, majority of its wall is still intact. At a moderate pace, it takes two hours to walk along the winding Visapoor walls. It is high and strengthened by towers along the west face. In other parts, the wall varies from 3 feet thick fortification, backed by masonry platforms where the slope of the hill is easy, to a mere parapet of dry stone where the plateau ends in a precipice. Two massive bastions still flank the ruined central gate.

The Fort of Rohida, also known as Vichitragad or Binicha Killa. It is situated in the valley of Rohid in the Basin of Neera River about 6 miles south of Bhor.

This historic fort is known to be from the period of Yadavas. Carvings on the 3rd entrance gate of the fort suggest that the fort was modified by Mohammad Adil-Shah. Shivaji Maharaj won the fort from the hands of Bandal-Deshmukh of Rohid in a close battle. After the battle, many officials along with Bajiprabhu Deshpande, a chief administrator of Bandals, were inducted into Swarajya movement.

A series of Ganesh idols can be seen on the frame of the first entrance gate. Second gate is just 15 to 20 steps ahead. Next, a 57 steps climb takes to the third entrance gate of the fort. This gate is strongly built and has some artistic carvings on it. Entering through the gate, one can see the remnants of two building structures. One of which might be a courtyard while other presumably be the residence of the Fort Commander (Killedar). Walking along the left side leads to a temple of ‘Lord Rohidmalla’ or ‘Bhairoba’ in common language. Idols of ‘Lord Ganesh’, ‘Bhairoba’ and ‘Bhairavi’ can be seen inside.
